The Palace of Venaria Reale
The Palace

The residence's original 17th-century core, which is covered in white plaster, and the later 18th-century expansion, which has exposed brickwork, make up the palace's two separate wings. The Cour d'honneur ("Honor Court"), where the palace's entrance is located, previously had a fountain with a deer. The main front, which is plastered over and decorated with fruits, shells, and cornucopias, is sectioned off from the 18th-century wing on the right. The two towers are made of multicoloured pentagonal ceramic tiles and are from the Michelangelo Garove era (1669–1713). Galleria Grande connects the two towers.

Since French troops used them as training grounds, the residence's original gardens are now completely gone. An Italian park with three terraces and architectural features including a clock tower in the first court, the Hercules fountain, a theatre, and parterres is seen in earlier sketches. The terraces are joined to one another by intricate staircases.

Recent construction has rebuilt a park in the modernist style, displaying contemporary artwork by Giuseppe Penone, featuring a fictitious 12 m-tall cedar storing the palace's thermic discharges.
